A Solar System is a star and all the things that move around it.

The Sun is a star at the centre of the Solar System.
The Sun gives us light and heat.

The Earth is a planet. Planets move around the Sun
Planets don't give light or heat.

The Moon is a satellite. Satellites move around planets.
Satellites don't give light or heat.

The Moon orbits the Earth. We see different parts of the Moon during its orbit. These are called the phases of the Moon.

Have a look at these videos!

ROTATION is the movement of the Earth on its axis.

The Earth is always turning on its axis.
This movement is called ROTATION.
The Earth takes 24 hours (1 day) to complete one rotation.
This movement causes day and night.

It is day when the Earth is facing the Sun and it is night on the other side.

REVOLUTION is the movement of the Earth around the Sun.

The Earth moves around the Sun. This movement is called REVOLUTION.
The Earth takes 365 days (1 year) to complete one revolution around the Sun.
This movement causes the seasons.

There are twelve months in a year and four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
